Celebration Turns Violent
Despite increased law enforcement presence, the annual West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn devolved into tragedy as two men were shot in separate incidents following the festivities. The NYPD reported at least six people wounded and one person slashed across four locations near Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue. A person of interest is now in custody.
Details of the Victims
- A 53-year-old man was critically injured—shot in the neck and leg near Nostrand Avenue.
- A 40-year-old woman sustained a gunshot injury to her ankle. Both victims are currently in stable condition.
Authorities are investigating the incidents, which overshadowed what began as a vibrant Labor Day celebration of Caribbean culture.
