Jets Star Kris Boyd Shot, Hospitalized in Critical Condition – Suspect At Large

Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning in Midtown Manhattan. Authorities say the suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

What happened

  • Around 2:00 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2025, police responded to reports of a shooting near West 38th Street and 7th Avenue outside a restaurant in Manhattan. When officers arrived, Boyd, 29, was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.
  • The New York Police Department confirmed a male was shot in the location, though they did not immediately identify the victim. Multiple media outlets later reported the wounded individual was Jets player Kris Boyd.
  • No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing. Police say the suspect was seen fleeing in an SUV.
  • Boyd joined the Jets earlier in 2025 after previous stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. He had been on injured reserve this season following a shoulder injury.

Why this matters

  • For the Jets, the injury is a major blow. Boyd was expected to contribute to special teams and depth in the defensive backfield. His recovery timeline is uncertain and could impact the team’s planning.
  • This incident places a spotlight on athlete safety off the field — particularly during late‑night activities in high‑traffic urban areas.
  • From a broader perspective, when a professional athlete is the target in a violent, unsolved shooting, it raises questions about public exposure, security and risk management for players.

What to watch next

  • Whether the NYPD will release more details: suspect description, motive, surveillance footage or witness statements.
  • Updates on Boyd’s medical status: condition change, potential surgery, hospital stay length and expected recovery.
  • Impact on the Jets: roster changes, replacement plans or team statements on Boyd’s future availability.
  • Legal and security implications: Will the team or union review player off‑field risk policies or offer guidance for player safety.
