Dallas Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland Dead at 24 from Self‑Inflicted Gunshot Wound After Police Chase


The Dallas Cowboys and law‑enforcement agencies confirmed that defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, age 24, died early Thursday morning in Frisco, Texas, from an apparent suicide following a multi‑agency police pursuit. 

Incident Details

  • On Nov. 5, state troopers attempted to stop Kneeland’s vehicle for a traffic violation, triggering a chase that ended in the car crashing on the southbound Dallas Parkway near Warren Parkway. He then fled the scene on foot.  
  • During the search, police were notified by dispatch that Kneeland had sent a “good‑bye” group text to family and that his girlfriend told officers he was armed and had expressed intentions to harm himself.  
  • His body was found at approximately 1:31 a.m. on Nov. 6 in the vicinity of the crash site, with investigators citing a self‑inflicted gunshot wound. The formal cause and manner of death are still under investigation by the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Kneeland was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft from Western Michigan Broncos.
