Feds Subpoena Gilbert Arenas’ Business Manager Amid Illegal Poker Ring Investigation

Former NBA star Gilbert “Agent Zero” Arenas is facing serious federal scrutiny after investigators subpoenaed his business manager and unsealed a sweeping indictment accusing him of running a high‑stakes illegal poker operation out of his Encino mansion.

What’s Going On

  • Authorities subpoenaed Regina Jones, Arenas’ longtime business manager, to serve as a witness in the case tied to a multi‑person gambling ring alleged to have operated between September 2021 and July 2022.
  • The investigation alleges that Arenas rented out his Encino property and directed associates to host private poker games from that location—playing games like Pot Limit Omaha—and collected a “rake” (i.e. taking a cut) from the games.
  • In addition to gambling charges, Arenas is accused of making false statements to federal investigators.

Why This Matters

  • The subpoena of someone close to him signals that federal prosecutors may be building a case that ties Arenas more tightly to the operation, beyond just allegations of passive involvement.
  • The indictment names multiple co‑defendants—some with alleged ties to organized crime—and claims the poker nights were more than casual games, involving staff like valets, chefs, security, and even women serving drinks or providing companionship.
  • Arenas was released on bond ($50,000) after pleading not guilty. His trial is currently scheduled to begin on September 23, 2025.

What to Watch Next

  1. How Regina Jones’ testimony will factor: her knowledge of financials, contracts, or communications could be key.
  2. Whether additional co‑conspirators will be named or more subpoenas issued.
  3. How Arenas responds—via legal motion, public statement, or plea negotiations.
  4. The outcome of the trial and any sentences if he’s convicted on the gambling and false statement charges.
