Chapter 7 Filing Marks Low Point for Roc-A-Fella Cofounder
Damon “Dame” Dash, the former Roc-A-Fella Records powerhouse, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Florida. Court documents reveal staggering debts totaling more than $25 million, yet only $4,350 in personal assets. These filings include just $100 in cash, a $500 phone, $2,500 worth of jewelry, clothes, two firearms, and modest living expenses.
Massive Debts from Every Angle
Dash’s debt includes:
- Over $8.7 million in unpaid back taxes to New York State and the IRS
- $5.79 million owed to Los Angeles County
- $3.5 million claimed by New Jersey tax authorities
This adds up to nearly $19 million in tax liabilities alone.
Child Support and Legal Judgments
- Over $647,000 in unpaid child and spousal support to ex-wife Rachel Roy and Cindy Morales
- Another $487,000 owed to the NYC Department of Social Services
- $5.5 million in unsecured claims, including:
- $4 million to filmmaker Josh Webber (for Dear Frank)
- $78,000 to producer Edwyna Brooks
- $100,000 in legal fees to attorney Christopher Brown
Chapter 7: A Fresh Start—or the End
Under Chapter 7, Dash may see his remaining assets liquidated to repay creditors, while collectors are paused from further action. The filing also buys time from accruing interest or legal judgments.
