Guilty Plea and Sentencing Timeline
On August 26, 2025, rapper Boosie Badazz (real name: Torrence Ivy Hatch Jr.) officially pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm—a major legal turn in a case that’s been a year in the making. He’s currently facing a sentencing date set for Friday, November 21, 2025.
How It All Started
The case began back in May 2023 during a San Diego traffic stop. Boosie was filmed on Instagram Live with a firearm in his waistband, prompting law enforcement to track his vehicle via helicopter and recover two guns at that stop.
Legal Back-and-Forth
- Initially, Boosie expected a lighter state-level sentence and waived further challenge.
- A court ruling in 2024 briefly dismissed the case, suggesting it may be unconstitutional to bar a felon with nonviolent drug offenses from possessing firearms. Boosie walked free in tears.
- However, that decision was later overturned on appeal—reviving the case under federal charges.
What’s at Stake
Although prosecutors could push for up to 15 years, the recommendation currently stands at 24 months in prison.
