French Montana Sued for Allegedly Refusing to Return Million‑Dollar Watch

Rapper French Montana is facing a civil lawsuit filed by two men—Justo Obiang and Samir Gato—who claim the star borrowed their timepiece valued at over $1 million and never returned it. The suit, filed in California, alleges fraud, conversion, and unjust enrichment.

What the Complaint Alleges

  • Obiang and Gato say they met French Montana after a 2015 show in Geneva and later arranged a watch‑swap for Paris Fashion Week in 2024. They claim French asked to borrow Obiang’s watch for 30 days with the promise of returning it.
  • As collateral, French purportedly provided them with a different watch that they now allege is counterfeit. When they demanded the return of the original watch, they say French refused.
  • The value of the watch in question is said to be over $1 million. The plaintiffs are seeking at least that amount in damages, along with legal fees.

French Montana’s Response

French Montana’s attorney, Steve Haddad, told TMZ the claims are “untrue” and that French plans to countersue Obiang and Gato. He maintains that the watch was given to French as payment for services and that any claims otherwise are false.

Why This Matters

  • High‑value disputes like this highlight how celebrity interactions with luxury assets can lead to complex legal battles.
  • The case raises questions about documentation: who owns the watch, what was the agreement, and what happened to the “collateral.”
  • For French Montana, this is another legal matter adding to his public profile, though it is civil (not criminal) and doesn’t carry potential prison time.
