Birthday Note” Used as Evidence Against Swizz Beatz in $7M Fraud Lawsuit Linked to 1MDB

Grammy‑winning producer Swizz Beatz (Kasseem Dean) is still a defendant in a civil lawsuit seeking to recover $7.3 million tied to the 1MDB Malaysian scandal. A curious detail has emerged in court filings: a wire transfer labeled “Everyday is your Birthday” is being cited as evidence of questionable funds.

What the Lawsuit Alleges

  • The suit was filed by court‑appointed liquidators trying to claw back assets allegedly misappropriated from Malaysia’s 1MDB sovereign wealth fund. The plaintiffs claim Swizz accepted funds between 2012 and 2014 that had no legitimate business purpose.
  • Among the transactions under scrutiny is one noted as “Everyday is your Birthday.” The judge flagged this as lacking any credible explanation, implying that such labeling doesn’t justify the legitimacy of the transfer.
  • In denying Swizz’s motion to dismiss, the court invoked “adverse domination” doctrine, meaning the statute of limitations is tolled while the wrongdoers controlled the entities, keeping the case alive.

Swizz’s Defense & Next Steps

  • Swizz’s legal team sought to dismiss the case on procedural grounds, claiming the statute of limitations had expired and contesting the sufficiency of the plaintiff’s allegations. The judge rejected those arguments.
  • Now the case will move into discovery, where Swizz must produce documents and respond to deeper questioning about these transfers and their purposes.
  • Meanwhile, Swizz maintains that he never knowingly accepted illicit funds and that some of the transfers were legitimate gifts or personal transactions.
